Group sharing

Invite anyone in three seconds.

A QR code. A deep link. A username. Three ways to add someone to a group — pick whichever is fastest for where you are right now. No friction. No "create an account first." No phone number required.

Why "I'll add them later" kills shared expenses

Three friction points that break the moment

Phone numbers are awkward

"What's your number?" feels weird in 2026. People hesitate. Group chat threads with strangers fill up. Half the time the number doesn't even match the app account.

Account walls kill momentum

If your friend has to download an app, create an account, verify their email — they never finish. The moment you wanted to capture (lunch just ended, everyone's at the table) is gone.

Links don't open the app

Most "join" links open a web page that says "download the app to continue." The browser tab gets closed. The friend forgets. The expense never gets split.

QR code — scan in 2 seconds

Tap "Invite" on any group, show the QR to anyone with a phone. They scan with their camera, the deep link opens Olik Split (or the App Store if not installed yet), and they're in. The QR encodes an 8-character invite code valid for 48 hours.

Deep link — send via any chat

Same 8-character code, wrapped in a deep link: oliksplit.app/join/AB12CD34. Drop it in WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram, Discord, anywhere. Friends tap it on their phone — opens the app, joins the group. On desktop, opens the web app and prompts to log in or create an anonymous account.

Username — for people you already know

Friend already has Olik? Type their username (you can claim a username in 10 seconds during signup). They get an in-app notification. One tap to accept. No email, no number, no link to remember.

Dinner just ended. You're standing outside the restaurant with five friends, the night air chilling fingertips. Someone says "should we split this in that app?" You open Olik, tap Create Group, type "Lisbon dinner," tap Invite. The QR fills the screen. Everyone holds up their phones at once — three scan from across the table, two tap your deep link from a quick WhatsApp message.

Thirty seconds later, everyone's in. The expense is split. No one needed to make an account. The Uber to the next bar arrives just as the last balance updates. Total friction: less than the time it takes to find your wallet.

Common questions

Can someone join without creating an account?

Yes. Joining via QR or deep link creates an anonymous account on the spot — they're in the group within seconds. They can link it to a Google / Apple / email account later if they want sync across devices.

How long is an invite valid?

48 hours by default. After that, the QR/link expires and you generate a new one. This prevents stale links being shared months later by accident.

What if someone doesn't have a smartphone?

Send them the deep link via any chat — they can open it on their laptop or tablet too. Olik's web app handles the join flow identically.

Can I revoke an invite after it's been used?

Yes — remove the member from the group at any time. Their access ends; balances they were part of stay in the history.

How many members can a group have?

Free tier: up to 5 per group. Premium: up to 10. Most travel groups, flatmate setups, and couples groups stay well within both limits.
